1. Jebel Jais Mountain Road, Ras Al Khaimah
The crown jewel of UAE driving. At 1,934 metres, Jebel Jais is the highest peak in the UAE, and the road to the summit is a 30-kilometre ribbon of perfectly surfaced tarmac with sweeping switchbacks, dramatic elevation changes, and views that stretch to the Strait of Hormuz. The drive from Dubai takes about 90 minutes via the E311, but the mountain road itself is where the magic happens. Best in a Porsche 911 or Ferrari F8 — cars that reward precise steering and throttle control. Go early morning (before 9 AM) when the road is quiet and the air is cool. There is a viewing deck at the top with a café and the world's longest zipline.
2. Al Qudra Desert Road (D63)
Al Qudra is the road Dubai's petrolheads know by heart. This long, straight, beautifully maintained highway cuts through open desert south of Dubai. The road is wide, empty, and virtually free of speed cameras for long stretches — though we always recommend staying within legal limits. The desert landscape on both sides creates a cinematic backdrop, especially at golden hour when the dunes glow amber. Stop at Al Qudra Lakes for flamingo spotting, then continue south toward Bab Al Shams for a desert resort dinner. Best in a Lamborghini Huracán or Mercedes G63.
3. Dubai to Hatta Mountain Drive
The E44 highway to Hatta is Dubai's escape route to the Hajar Mountains. The 130-kilometre drive takes you from sea-level skyscrapers to 800-metre mountain wadis in under two hours. The road quality is excellent throughout, with gentle curves through rocky gorges and small Emirati villages. Hatta Dam offers kayaking and mountain biking, while the Hatta Heritage Village gives a glimpse of pre-oil Dubai. The return drive at sunset, with the Dubai skyline glowing on the horizon, is one of the most photogenic moments in the UAE. A Bentley Continental GT or Range Rover SVR handles this route perfectly.
4. Jumeirah Beach Road Coastal Cruise
Not every great drive needs to be fast. Jumeirah Beach Road (the D94) runs parallel to the coast from the Burj Al Arab all the way to Dubai Canal. This is the see-and-be-seen route — lined with beach clubs, five-star hotels, and waterfront restaurants. The speed limit is 60–80 km/h, which is perfect for enjoying the breeze in a convertible. Take a Rolls-Royce Dawn or Porsche 911 Cabriolet, lower the roof, and cruise past Kite Beach, La Mer, and the iconic Jumeirah Mosque. Best at sunset when the light hits the Burj Al Arab's sail-shaped facade.
5. Dubai to Abu Dhabi via the E11
The 140-kilometre run between Dubai and Abu Dhabi is the UAE's Autobahn. The E11 highway is arrow-straight, immaculately surfaced, and features four to six lanes in each direction. The speed limit is 140 km/h, but the road feels designed for more. Allow 75 minutes door-to-door, and plan to arrive at the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Yas Marina Circuit, or the Emirates Palace for lunch. A grand tourer like the Bentley Continental GT or Aston Martin DB11 makes this journey feel effortless. Note: Abu Dhabi has a separate toll system (Darb) — most rental companies register for it automatically.
6. Palm Jumeirah Loop
The Palm Jumeirah trunk and crescent road is a short but spectacular loop. Start at the monorail station, cruise down the central trunk past luxury villas, then follow the crescent road that curves around the outer breakwater. The Atlantis hotel dominates the view at the far end. The entire loop is about 15 kilometres and takes 20 minutes — but the density of Instagrammable backdrops makes it worth multiple laps. Essential Driving Tips for the UAE
The UAE has strict traffic laws and modern enforcement. Speed cameras are everywhere, and fines start at AED 300 for 20 km/h over the limit. Using a mobile phone while driving carries a fine of AED 800 and 4 black points. Always buckle up — all passengers, front and rear. The blood alcohol limit is effectively zero — do not drive after any amount of alcohol. Petrol stations are frequent on all major routes, and most accept card payments. Finally, if you are driving in summer (June–September), keep the AC on max and carry water — interior temperatures in parked cars can exceed 70°C within minutes.
